Get Abs Fast

If you’re like most people, you want to get abs fast, but you can never seem to shed that layer of flab and get that lean, defined six pack look. A six pack might seem like an illusive goal that you’ll never achieve.

But why is it some hard for many of us to get lean, toned abs? Is it all genetics, and are we therefore doomed to remain flabby in our midsections?

Actually, ripped abs are completely within your reach. You simply need to know how what to do, both in terms of diet and exercise.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there, both about how to burn abdominal fat and how to get six pack abs.

To put it simply, you don’t need to do endless crunches or lengthy ab routines to get a six pack. In fact, you can do literally hundreds of crunches a day and still stay flabby - if you don’t first burn off the layer of fat covering your abdominal muscles.

But aerobic exercise alone is also unlikely to get you those abs you’ve always wanted. Recent studies have shown that running, jogging, or other aerobic exercises are not very effective in reducing body fat by themselves.

So what DOES work? Diet modification is one of the best ways to reduce body fat. But all diets are not created equal. A number of studies have shown that low carb eating can lead to more rapid weight loss and fat reduction when compared to low fat dieting.

In addition, weight training is an excellent way to boost your metabolism and burn fat. A great plan that combines both diet and a unique weight lifting routine is outlined in the excellent book Fat Burning Furnace by Rob Poulos.

If you educate yourself and follow both the right eating plan and the proper weight training techniques, you will be surprised how fast that fat can burn off. You really can get abs fast - all it takes is knowledge and commitment.

What are some good exercises for abs with an exercise ball?

READER QUESTION:  I am a girl aged 15 i play alot of sport and want to strengthen my abs mainly lower abs. The equipment i have is an exercise ball and 1.5kg,3kg and 5kg weights. Any other good exercises i could try for legs, butt, arms etc please help :D

EDITOR’S ANSWER:  For your legs and butt, nothing works like the lunge. If you do sports, I’m sure you know how to do a lunge. Try doing 10-15 of those across a hallway or something. Also good for legs and butt are squats. Don’t let your knee go past your ankle, instead act like you’re lowering your butt to sit on a chair. You can add the handweights to either of these exercises. For abs, try leg lifts. Lay on your back and lift the legs (keeping them straight) 10 times up (try to get a 90 degree angle) 10 times to the left, and 10 times to the right. Push ups, while they aren’t the most fun exercise, are awesome for your arms and abs. Have fun!

Ab routines - do pushups to get great abs

When most people think of ab routines, they think of crunches, bicycle maneuvers, situps. In other words, they think of exercises that directly work out their abs.

Of course, you’ll never get six pack abs until you burn off your stomach fat. Therefore, a lot of programs recommend running and other aerobic exercises to burn calories and thus burn fat. The trouble is, aerobic exercise alone doesn’t work for everybody.

Therefore, many people advise dieting to lose those extra pounds. Of course, diets are hard to follow for the long term, so many people often burn fat, only to put the pounds right back on when they abandon the diet.

But perhaps the best way to burn fat without drastic dietary changes or endless hours on the treadmill is to put on some muscle. By starting a muscle-building routine, you speed up your metabolism and start burning that fat.

One of the easiest ways to start building muscle is to begin doing pushups regularly. The video below, produced by a sports doctor, shows you just how he performs pushups and pullups at home to avoid injurry while building muscle.

Note how he mixes up the reps of each exercise to ensure that he reaches muscular failure. This video is a great example of how you can get a thorough workout at home, without even investing in expensive equipment.

How to Get Abs: A Good Primer

Want to know how to get abs? This video is a pretty good primer showing a routine you can follow to target your abs and get ripped.

Of course, you can do ab exercises forever and not get a six pack until you burn off that fat, but this video is a great place to start, especially if you are looking to just tone your midsection up a bit and get some more definition.

What I really like about this video is that it shows you the proper form for three essential abs exercises, including multiple angle shots to make sure you know how to perform each one.  Proper form is essential to avoid injury and actually target the ab muscles (rather than your back!)

You can also perform these exercises around your house without expensive equipment, another huge plus.  No need to sign up for a gym membership to get started on defining your abs and working on your six pack right away (also, no excuses for not doing so - all it takes to get started is watching the video).

So take a look and get started right away.  The sooner you begin, the sooner you’ll look your best!

Quick Abs Routine

This is a quick abs routine for both beginners looking to get some definition while burning fat or even for more advanced people who just want to simplify things to maintain their six pack abs.

A study by the American Council on Exercise revealed that the three most effective ab exercises of all are, in the following order:

  1. the bicycle exercise
  2. the captain’s chair
  3. exercise ball crunch

That’s right, these three basic exercises beat out all other machines and routines in terms of both overall effectiveness and speed of results - you can use them to get quick abs and look great in in time.

So before you invest in some expensive equipment or even DVDs or workout manuals, try starting with a routine consisting of two of these three exercises twice a week (or for more advanced people, try all three exercises). Concentrate on form over speed - the more perfect your form, the better the results will be.

For beginners, the three exercises above are quite simple. The bicycle exercise require no equipment at all. Basically, you lay on your back, hands behind your head and legs in the air. You then lift your shoulder blades off the ground and bring your knees in towards your torso. Next, you extend your right leg out straight at a 45 degree angle while turning your right elbow towards your left knee. Then switch, extending your left leg while pivoting your left elbow towards your right knee. Continue for 10-20 reps, or until you reach abdominal muscular failure.

The exercise ball crunch requires the purchase of an inflatable exercise ball, but they are cheap and easy to find. Do a set of 10-20 crunches using the ball (or you can also just do standard crunches on the floor if you don’t want to by a ball).

Repeat this routine every three days, and throw in a couple sets of push ups to build muscles mass and rev up your metabolism.

Soon you’ll be well on your way to defining your abs and having the six pack you’ve always wanted.
